A common prostate cancer treatment is radiation therapy. There are two types of radiation therapy: internal or interstitial radiation and external radiation. Interstitial radiation, known as brachytherapy is radiation that is administered internally to the affected tissue. External radiation, or EBRT, is applied from the outside using the maximum amount of radiation possible without damaging surrounding organs and tissue.

The hormone testosterone is responsible for the growth of the male sex organs and therefore contributes to the growth of cancer in the prostate. A non-invasive prostate treatment is to cease the production of testosterone, thus stopping the continued growth of cancerous cells. Tests have shown that after this prostate treatment is complete, testosterone levels generally return to normal or almost normal.

Chemotherapy is a prostate cancer treatment generally used when alternative treatments like prostate surgery have failed. It is used only for cancer that is very far along and has spread to other areas of the body. Chemotherapy utilizes extremely toxic chemicals that kill the cancerous cells.

The concept of prostate surgery is to get rid of the cancerous gland itself. This prostate treatment is only helpful if the cancer is confined to the prostate. Prostate surgery can often be radical, involving not just the removal of the gland itself, but the surrounding veins and nerves.

Colon cancer or colorectal cancer is one important cancer. In the western world, this cancer is considered as the third most common type of cancer and the second leading cause of death that are cancer related. It is a disease that affects the large intestine, an organ that absorbs the nutrients from the food, and stores and eliminates the fecal material. The large intestine has two parts, the colon and the rectum.

Colon cancer occurs when tumors appear inside the colon and rectum. These tumors can be malignant, in which case they do not present any danger and they can be removed by a simple surgery, and beningn. Beningn tumors are cancerous tumors that can spread and cause life-threatening complications. If you have been diagnosed with a beningn colon tumor you must begin the colon cancer treatment as soon as possible because if the illness is left untreated it can spread to other organs such as the liver and the lungs. There are three methods of treating colon cancer – by surgery, radiation therapy and by chemotherapy.

Colon cancer surgery is the most widely-used method of treating the disease. In colon cancer surgery, the part of the colon that has the tumor and the infected tissue on it is removed, and then the remaining parts of the colon are sewn back. Lately, colon cancer surgeries are done with the help of an instrument called laparoscope, which enables the doctors operate through a very small abdominal incision, leaving only a small scar behind.

Radiation therapy is a treatment that involves the use of high energy rays that can kill the cancer cells. The advantage of this method is that it can also kill the cancerous cells that have spread and were not detected yet. Radiation therapy is required when the cancer has spread to another organ and the surgery can not remove it form there. The bad part of radiation therapy is that it has side effects that include diarrhea, tiredness or bladder irritation.

Chemotherapy uses special anti cancerous drugs that are injected into the patient’s blood and spread through the whole body, killing all the cancerous cells. This kind of therapy is used when the cancer has spread to many places and surgery or radiation therapy can’t cover such large areas. Unfortunately chemotherapy has the worst side effects. The most common are loss of hair, loss of appetite, fatigue, easy bruising and bleeding, vomiting and diarrhea.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, with roughly 175,000 new cases reported each year. It can be treated in many different ways. Each treatment method will work best for different individuals. Some people see best results from a combination of different treatments. It is best to consult with your doctor about which treatment method is right for you. However, it is a good idea to know a little about each of the most common treatment types before consulting with a doctor. This way you can make the most informed decision.

Surgery
Surgery is almost always used to help fight cancer. Surgery is usually the first step in fighting cancer. The cancer is removed, and the breast is reconstructed. There are several different types of surgery. The mastectomy removes the whole breast. The lumpectomy removes the cancer tumor and a little of the surrounding tissue. A axillary lymph node dissection is often used when the cancer has spread past the milk ducts in the breast. It can be used in conjunction with the other forms of surgery.

Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is another common form of breast cancer treatment. After the cancer has been removed the drugs are placed into the blood stream. The drugs kill any rapidly reproducing cells. Since cancer reproduces very quickly, this is an effective way to remove all cancer from the entire body. However, there are serious side effects to this treatment as well such as hair loss, nausea, and weakness.

Radiation Therapy
Radiation therapy sends targeted radiation to the area affected by the cancer. The radiation helps kill any lingering cancer cells that might exist. Radiation treatments are usually prescribed for women who have stage 0 through stage III form of cancer. It is not used as much for higher levels of cancer because it is a system designed to target small areas of the body.

Hormonal Therapy
Hormonal therapy is used for hormone positive forms of breast cancer. The hormone therapy blocks the production of estrogen in the body which can shrink hormone positive breast cancers. This form of treatment is rarer than the others because hormone positive breast cancer is not as common.

Complementary and Holistic Medicine
Complementary and holistic medicine is often used in conjunction with other treatments. Usually these kinds of medicines help ease side effects, improve the quality of life of the patient, and help soothe symptoms. Treatments often include improved diet, exercise, and herbs. Rarely is holistic medicine used completely to heal cancer, although some people believe that it can. It is best to talk to your doctor before starting any holistic therapies.
